MadBlocker
MadBlocker configures your iOS 8 device to block advertisements and scripts that track your behavior online. It blocks ads and tracking scripts in Safari, and most apps, all without sending data anywhere else. How does MadBlocker work? Advertisements embedded in web pages and apps are served from distinct advertising domains. MadBlocker blocks ad domains by connecting to a dead-end VPN connection rather than loading their ads. Does it block all advertisements? MadBlock will block all embedded ads being served from domains in the MadBlock blocklist. It may not block ads being served by websites themselves. How do I get started? The first time you turn on a blocklist, you will need to install the dead-end VPN profile on your iOS device. MadBlocker will start the install process automatically the first time you flip a block switch. The install is as simple as clicking “Install”, entering your passcode, and then pressing “Install” again. Are there any privacy concerns to using MadBlock? We value your privacy. Since the VPN config installed by MadBlock directs advertisement requests to a local dead-end VPN, the requests are blocked before they leave your device. No traffic is routed through MadBlock. MadBlock does not use a proxy. In addition to advertisements, MadBlock can also block tracking scripts, to further protect your privacy. Which block lists is MadBlock using? For basic ad blocking, MadBlock uses a custom-curated blocklist. For mega ad blocking, MadBlock uses the EasyList, and for Privacy Protection MadBlock uses the EasyPrivacy list, both from the EasyList authors ( http://ift.tt/1tLHRSh ). Can I update the block lists? Yes! Simply turn off blocking, and then enable it again. The latest block lists are downloaded along with AppStore updates to MadBlock. To get the latest lists, be sure to download updates for MadBlock from the AppStore. It looks like something isn’t loading that should be. What can I do? Some sites included in the block list have legitimate uses, but are included because they tend to be bad actors with ads. You can allow them through by temporarily disabling the block list. Why is the browser slower when the mega list or privacy protection lists are enabled? The mega list and privacy protection lists contain thousands of things to block. It can take a while to check each webpage element against the blocklist. It doesn’t look like the blocking is working. Why not? If you have enabled blocking, it may be necessary to close apps before blocking goes into effect. Press the Home button two times quickly. You’ll see small previews of your recently used apps. Swipe left to find the app you want to close. Swipe up on the app’s preview to close it. via Pocket
